It was a muddy season, but we were able to finish it off. The playoffs were a one day event, but only one field was used. In the quarter finals, HEER FOR BEER must not have gotten the memo that their game was moved to Monday. They didn’t show up, so third ranked, PUBLIC ENEMA got a free ride to the semis.

In the other semifinal, JUST THE TIP and BACKDOOR SLIDERS came out swinging. The BACKDOOR SLIDERS didn’t have enough girls, so they chose to play a competitive game and take the forfeit, than to give up the outs and play to advance. Both teams did not adjust well to the bigger field, so mostly everything dropped for a hit.

For the first semifinal, the SOFT BALLERS could not round up enough players, so they ended up not showing and taking the forfeit. This meant that PUBLIC ENEMA advanced to the championship without ever playing a game.

In the second semifinal, defending champs HIT FOR BRAINS took care of business. They were able to make more plays than JUST THE TIP. They hit the ball to all the corners of the field and the runs started to pile up. The game had to be called early due to the time limit, and HIT FOR BRAINS had plenty of runs to take the victory.

The championship was the best played game all year. PUBLIC ENEMA came out hot. Their two hour warm up did a lot. They were able to cover the huge outfield and make the routine catches. HIT FOR BRAINS made some very unusual blunders that gave the lead to PUBLIC ENEMA for most of the game. It wasn’t until the 5th inning, when HFB started to come back. In the sixth inning it was tied 6-6. HFB was able to score two runs to make it 7-9 going into the top of the 7th. PUBLIC ENEMA was strung a two out rally together and scored two runs to tie it up. In the bottom of the 7th, the leadoff hitter smashed a liner to center that was not caught and went to the wall. He ran all the way around to win the game 9-10.
